click to enlargeEvelyn Hauer Kerr was born 116 years ago today. She became a great-great grandmother in 1988, shortly after her 94th birthday. Her memory was very poor by that time, but I think she always recognized her daughter Mary even on her worst days.
That was to be the last year of her life. She died December 19th and two days later was laid to rest beside her beloved Rosmer.
Today I'm celebrating Evelyn's birthday with Paint Shop Pro. The five-generation photo above was taken at the nursing home where Evelyn lived. Actually, it's cobbled together from a few snapshots taken that day, only one of which had baby Kim's whole head in it. The others had Evelyn's elbow instead! And I'm sure I don't have to tell anyone how hard it is to get one picture that everyone looks good in.
To make matters worse, Evelyn's red print dress and Brenda's aqua print blouse were in serious contention with the flowered drapes in the background. Really, the snapshots were horrible! And in the olden days, children, that would have been the end of the story. In 1988 I never would have imagined that I would someday be able to fix that mess and end up with a fairly satisfying five-generation portrait. Goodbye, heinous background! Auf wiedersehen, clashing colors!
Still not perfect, but much improved!

And I thought you were lucky or had a great photographer!! All the techno joys of life. That's a great photo, cobbled together or not --- and rather like one would like to remember it --- all looking good!

TK, this is great and a fine tribute to your grandma. To have 5 generations able to be in a photo is wonderful. Your grandma would be proud.
